Cultural Reconnaissance has been retained to provide technical expertise for the restoration of failing masonry and stucco on the historic county courthouse building. We will act as westside representative for the county in meetings and conversations with the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation and the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation. Work is scheduled to commence summer of 2021 and should be complete by summer 2023.
The project was put on hold for several reasons including COVID. However, another pressing concern was the having a detailed take-off of work and a better understanding of the costs associated with repairs. The County Commissioners hired Pioneer Waterproofing to conduct a takeoff and it was learned that the repair estimate exceeded the grant award. Cultural Reconnaissance reviewed planning documents, and consulted on abiding by the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Historic Preservation of the structure. A supplemental grant request is strongly advised.
